Bioshock gets patched—here’s to more enemy types?

Bioshock gets patched.

If you’ve been wallowing in technical problems and didn’t pay attention to gaming news for a week like me, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised over this update. You see, Bioshock has new downloadable content for PC and Xbox 360 gamers. The content includes new Plasmids and Tonics, achievements, interface upgrades, and is now available as free downloadable content from Xbox Live Marketplace and as part of a PC patch.

Does this mean we get new types of enemies? Aside from the motion-sickness I got from playing too much, I was also nauseated by the limited number of enemies throughout the game. Honestly, I have yet to finish Bioshock because I can’t stand to whack the same Splicer for over 10 hours.

If you can relate with my gripes, then be prepared to be disappointed because the DLC only includes:

Four Plasmids and Gene Tonics:

  • Sonic Boom: Hurls creatures and objects back with a blast of force;
  • EVE saver: Enables Plasmids to use less EVE;
  • Vending Expert: Reduces prices in the vending machines;
  • Machine Buster: Increases the amount of damage players deal to cameras, bots and turrets.

Achievements (exclusive to Xbox 360):

  • Xbox 360 players can gain 100 points for “Brass Balls,” by beating Bioshock on the “hard” difficulty setting without dying.

You’ll be happy to hear that Bioshock now has a widescreen option, but there are a bunch of other fixes that are listed. The Xbox 360 update will be automatically applied at the game’s startup when users log into Xbox Live. PC owners can get the patch here.

    You forgot to include the not-very-exciting Human Inferno tonic that they added back into the game (apparently it was pulled from the game before release).

    Other than that you’re spot on, the new content is nothing to get excited about. If they’d just said it was a patch I would have been happy, but when they said ‘new downloadable content’ I started thinking new weapons, interesting plasmids, scary new enemies … no such luck.

    Thanks for the heads up, Chris. I seem to have missed that somewhere.

    I haven’t even downloaded the patch yet. I’m too busy playing Soldier of Fortune (yes, the first one) to care. That old game may be an “average” shooter, but I really love the gore.
