Because Amber is just so cool, she forwarded this to me.

Now at first glance I was like….FPS??..bullsh*t!! But that’s what it says. Though how you can have an FPS without any guns per se is a little past me, but that’s okay. I’m sure we will still have violence and killing and ..stuff.

Poject Offset sets you in the Fantasy world of gaming and it looks to throw a little rpg into the mix.

The legendary tale opens with the selection of heroes’ classes and appearances and leads the players across a perilous journey through the world. The quests heroes partake in rely on detailed scripting to enhance the drama of key moments within this war saga.

As you read the stuff they’ve got up on the page it all seems very monumental and epic. However, I’m having some mixed feelings. While the concept behind the game seems cool, their main focus is their Offset Engine (OE). Which, unsurprisingly, is gorgeous and can do a lot of really nice things. I just have to wonder how much of the focus is on their game and not the engine. I get the weird feeling that they may eventually scrap the game and just sell the engine to other companies. The latest news on the site says that Red 5 has licensed the Offset Engine.

Any way you look at it, this is shaping up to be pretty cool. Whether or not we get a Fantasy FPS game out of it or not remains to be seen, the stuff this engine can do may help make some other FPS games and I’m all for that. And despite any misgivings I may have about this game, those videos are really cool. I would love to know what kind of machine is needed to run that stuff. I think I literally drooled watching that blue Ogre thing.

thanks again Amber!
